Young Greens Gather to Tackle Concept of Digital Rights: Can the Internet be Both Free and Fair?

80 young people from all around Europe will gather in Switzerland next week to talk about digital rights at the annual wintercamp of FYEG (Federation of Young European Greens). The weeklong event is supported from Youth in Action and by the Council of Europe (European Youth Foundation).

The Federation of Young European Greens, Ostra Zielen from Poland, Mladi Zeleni from the Czech Republic, Junge Grüne/Junge Alternative from Austria and Grüne Jugend from Germany are taking action together in response to the Nazi demonstrations that are due to take place in Dresden, Germany in February.

For the third year in a row, the Nazis will march in Dresden in order to spread their propaganda about the Second World War while pretending to be commemorating the bombings of Dresden in February 1945. These Nazi activities are a threat to the peaceful co-existence of people in Europe and thus need to be fought against!

Refugees are among the most vulnerable people in the world – especially when they arrive at places where they cannot stay while simultanously not being able to return to their homes. For those neither voluntary repatriation nor local integration is possible, so resettlement programs are the only viable strategy in order to continue their lifes peacefully, safely and in dignity. We, as Migration Working Group of the Federation of Young European Greens, want to express that permanent resettlement in third countries provide a durable solution to this problem and should be strenghtened.

In the aftermath of the meeting of the government and state leaders of the European Union yesterday, FYEG is deeply disappointed by the outcomes of the Council meeting. The proposals made by the summit will - even if put in place - not have any positive impact on the economic situation of Europe. On the contrary, they will lead Europe further down the path of recession and growing social inequalities.

Albanian Young Greens, with the support of Cooperation and Development Network of Eastern Europe (CDNEE) and the Federation of Young European Greens (FYEG) are organizing the street action “Youth energy boost: cross-Europe cooperation”. The action will take place in Tirana, close to the Pyramid, on January 23rd at 4:00 p.m.

During the action participants of the seminar “Sustainable Youth Energy” and members of Albanian Young Greens will creatively enact scenarios about energy efficiency. Information about renewable energy and its benefits for Albania and the region will also be distributed.
