Federation of Young European Greens

The first transnational tool of participatory democracy is about to start in April 2012. The so called "European Citizens' Initiative" (ECI) gives us the possibility to send our political demands directly to the European Commission. 1 Million European Citizens need to give their signature within 12 months and the European Commission is obliged to consider their proposal. FYEG welcomes the introduction of the ECI and it is very probable that there will be ECIs which FYEG might want to support.

The FYEG working group on democracy thinks every MO of FYEG should be prepared to use this exciting tool. A green vision of Europe has always been led by the idea to find solutions together. The ECI is not a decision-making instrument, but a great chance to start a true European Discussion, in which the European citizens' opinion will be taken into consideration - there are many things, we need to talk about!

• Analyzing the survey sent to the MOs / Get an overview about FYEGs potential
• Writing a FYEG strategy, how we can be a part of an ECI, which is going to start in April 2012

• Fill out our survey about the ECI

• Write a motion for your MO. Try to put the ECI on the agenda. Prepare your MO to support the ECI.
• Inform yourself with these detailed documents about the ECI:

  • Short brochure with a general overview about the ECI and its steps for the realisation
• Be a part of the democracy working group
• Check out, how other NGOs are participating in the ECI
  • The ECI-campaign - lot's of information about the implementation, etc.
  • ECI as a project of the European Student's Association
