Call for Executive Committee Member

FYEG is opening a call for candidates to fill the vacant position in the Executive Committee.

The deadline for applications is the 17 of October at 23:59 CET. The vote by Member Organisations will take place between Monday the 30th of October and Monday the 6th of November 23:59h CEST. We plan the following online calls:

  • Executive Committee Information Session (11th october 19h CET): Get to know what does it mean to be a member of the EC! Do you have questions, doubts, or are you looking for inspiration? Our EC has planned this call to help you figure out what you can expect.

  • Get to know the candidates! (23 October or 25 October 17:30 CET TBD): All MOs are invited to this session, where the candidates will be able to present their plans and motivations. All candidates are kindly requested to make sure they are available for this session. The office will reach out to the candidates once the application is closed to determine the final date.

The Executive Committee is the second highest decision-making body of FYEG after the General Assembly and is responsible for running the organisation between General Assemblies, including its political and communication activities as well as representing FYEG externally.

The Executive Committee of FYEG is composed of 8 members, including two co-Spokespersons, one Treasurer and five Board Members. Only people who identify as woman, intersex, nonbinary, trans or agender are invited to run for this position in order to ensure that the gender balance of the EC is in line with our Internal Rules of Procedure.

Being a member of the Executive Committee is a demanding and time consuming role, but it is also extremely rewarding with a multicultural working environment, possibility to decide on FYEG’s political and strategic development, being at the centre of a pan European project to represent young greens, and attending inspiring events. We are looking for people who believe in the green principles and are willing to voluntarily dedicate an average of 10 hours a week to FYEG, and to attend statutory and educational events until the next General Assembly taking place in August 2024.

Your tasks and responsibilities in the Executive Committee

All members of the EC are expected to:

  • Attend in person the EC retreats in Brussels (online participation can be agreed in extremely extraordinary and justified circumstances):

    • 20 - 21 January (arrival on 19 January)

    • 6-7 July (arrival on 5 July)

  • Participate in the online weekly EC meetings every Tuesday at 18:30 CET

  • Attend the General Assembly taking place in the second half of August (date and place tbc)

At the beginning of every mandate, the EC agrees on a task division that allows the body to implement the Activity Plan and Strategic Plan approved by the General Assembly and follow-up on political and strategic debates. The new incorporation in the EC will take over the following tasks:

  • South Regional responsibility: be the contact point for the southern MOs of the network, steer their activity and follow-up on the major events taking place in their countries. Planning, coordinating and moderating the regional meetings. Young Greens from other regions than South should not shy away from applying. The Secretary-General can support the development of this task.

  • Strategy 2025-2030: participate in the design and planning of the early stages of the preparation for the creation of the FYEG Strategy 2025-2030.

  • Green Family plans and campaigns: having a general sense of the plans of FYEG’s partners (mainly EGP and Greens/EFA) towards the EU elections campaign

  • Being in charge of an educational activity of the 2024 Activity Plan and/or the Activity Plan 2025 (to be decided)

Before you apply for a position, please consider if you have personal resources for continuous and challenging work for a year.

A year in the Executive Committee of FYEG would offer you:

  • The opportunity to work for a dynamic, youth-powered, and growing European political youth organisation.

  • A year in which you will get familiar with European level (youth) policy and the field of European Youth NGOs.

  • Space to work within the Green family on international, European, and national contexts

  • A chance to improve your professional, political, and activist skills and enhance them with hands-on experience.

  • A possibility to work on a project basis in multicultural and international teams and through this develop your team-work and leadership skills.

  • A lot of hard work and a lot of fun.

The members of FYEG Executive Committee are entitled to a monthly allowance up to a maximum of 100 EUR per month. The FYEG EC members are free to claim the allowance depending on their need.

The allowance is meant to cover preparation and participation in the following meetings:

  • FYEG activities, including regular EC meetings;

  • EGP Committee Meetings and Councils;

  • Study Visits to Member Organisations approved by the EC;

  • Other events or meetings approved by the EC.

In addition to the monthly allowance, Executive Committee members are entitled to reimbursement for their costs for travel, accommodation, food and child care costs when travelling and participating in events, in accordance with the FYEG reimbursement rules.

Multiple positions holding

FYEG strives to have non-cumulation of positions. EC members have to be able to combine their commitments to FYEG with whatever other tasks they may have. Candidates to the EC have to openly disclose what other mandates and functions they have.

Applications

To apply, please fill in the form in the amendment tool. You have to prepare the following documents and upload them through said platform:

  • A comprehensive motivation letter, explaining how your experiences match the profile, what you think you can contribute to FYEG and your vision on the role of a European political youth organisation.

  • Outline of what your plans are for the organisation or your vision for FYEG

  • Detailed CV

  • A short introduction text

  • The letter of support of your Member Organisations. (If that is not possible, the MO of which the candidate is from must provide an explanation of their rejection and the possible candidate has the right to provide a letter of justification. Both letters will be sent to all MOs and will decide whether this person is admitted to be a candidate or not).

According to the Internal Rules of Procedure, you need the support of at least two MOs (including your MO). Once the candidacies are published, the MOs will have the option to show their support through the amendment tool (no extra endorsement letter needed). You can get in touch with the MOs to ensure they express their support between the 18th and the 22nd of October. This is the same process we followed for the candidates in the last General Assembly.
